Los Angeles - If you missed This Is It in the cinema, you won't have to wait long to see the Michael Jackson documentary in the comfort of your home. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced Monday that it will release the DVD and Blu-ray disc version of This Is It on January 26. The release is timed to occur just before the Grammy popular music awards five days later when Jackson is expected to be in the headlines as the most influential music organization in the US pays tribute to him.
Sony said that both the DVD and Blu-ray discs will offer extensive bonus material over the movie version.
"We are thrilled with the date that we ended up with, where it's at an opportune time in the market," said Marc Rashba, Sony's VP of worldwide marketing. "The Grammys follow right after the release date. There will be a lot of Grammy areas in stores, and we can play into that."
Retailers are also expected to push This Is It pre-orders during this heavy fourth-quarter shopping period.
