Landau,Germany - Three men who procured wads of fake 50- euro and 100-euro notes in Italy and tried to sell them in Germany admitted to counterfeiting charges Monday at a court in Landau, Germany. A prosecutor said they were assured of a maximum jail term of five years in exchange for a confession. The forged notes had a face value of more than 170,000 euros (250,000 dollars).
The trio, aged 34 to 39, were caught when they tried to sell the bulk of the fakes to an undercover police officer. None of the forgeries went into circulation. The court is expected to issue a verdict on December 14.
