Sydney - Fancied Kenyan Samuel Wanjiru trailed in fourth behind Austrian distance running champion Guenther Weidlinger in the second annual Great Australian Run in Melbourne on Sunday. The 31-year-old Weidlinger, who last year broke countryman Gerhard Hartmann's 23-year-old national marathon record, finished the 15-kilometre street race in 43 minutes 1 second.
He was followed home by two Australians, and then by the Olympic marathon gold medalist.
Last year's race, the first in the series, was won in a time of 42 minutes 40 seconds by Ethiopian legend Haile Gebreselasie.
Nikki Chapple won the women's race in 50 minutes 18 seconds, ahead of compatriot Benita Willis.
