Tokyo - Shares in Japan were flat in Thursday morning trading on worries about the strong yen and the Japanese economy. The benchmark Nikkei gained 3.72 points, or 0.04 per cent, to stand at 9,445.36.
The broader-based Topix index of all first-section issues, fell 0.44 points, or 0.05 per cent, to 833.73.
On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar traded at 87.32-34 yen, down from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 88.35-36 yen.
The euro traded at 1.5125-29 dollars, up from 1.5001-02 dollars late Wednesday, and at 132.09-12 yen, down from 132.54-58 yen.
