Tel Aviv - An Israeli man threatened suicide on his Facebook profile and then disappeared, sparking a massive manhunt once worried friends noticed his farewell message on the social networking site. The unnamed 44-year-old was found, injured, near the southern Israeli city of Eilat early Wednesday, the Ha'aretz daily reported.
Divorced and apparently unemployed, he had moved to Eilat, on the tip of the Gulf of Akaba, several months ago. On Tuesday a friend saw his Facebook message, in which he said he was sick of life and could not go on anymore.
Several friends tried to locate him and when unsuccessful, contacted the local police, who launched an manhunt, assisted by a helicopter and specialist army troops.
The man's car was found Tuesday night and he himself was discovered, some distance away, on Wednesday morning in a crevice in a riverbed. He was conscious and able to walk, but weak and suffering from two broken ribs after a fall.
He was taken to hospital and will be questioned once his condition has stabilized.
