Istanbul - Some of Turkey's largest public sector unions are to stage a one-day strike to protest against the government's labour policies, it was announced Tuesday. The strike - to last all Wednesday - is expected to affect schools, hospitals and public transportation.
The unions, which represent some 630,000 workers, are seeking improved rights for collective bargaining and for holding strikes.
Labour leaders have described the action as a "warning" strike thatcould lead to further work stoppages.
