Tokyo - Stocks lost ground in Tuesday in Tokyo due to concerns about the state of government and private sector finances and the stronger yen. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 96.1 points, or 1.01 per cent, to end trading at 9,401.58.
The broader-based Topix index of all first-section issues was also down 9.49 points, or 1.13 per cent, to close at 829.22.
Japan's stock markets were closed on Monday for the Labour Thanksgiving Day holiday.
On currency markets at noon (0300 GMT), the dollar traded at 88.89-92 yen from down from 88.83-94 yen on Friday.
The euro traded at 1.4945-48 dollars, up from 1.4887-92 on Friday, and at 132.22-29 yen from 132.97-133.01 yen.
