Rome - Delio Rossi took charge of Palermo on Monday, hours after bottom-side Siena also replaced their coach, calling on Alberto Malesani, Italian media reported. Rossi, 49, signed a contract until the end of the season, after the Sicily side fired Walter Zenga.
After a good start to the season, Palermo have notched just two points from their past four outings, leaving them in the middle of the table on 17 points, five clear of a relegation place.
"I pondered all night and I decided that we could not go on like this," Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini said. "After 13 games, when all other teams improve, Palermo keep sinking lower, without producing their own game.
"I'm sorry under a human perspective, but Zenga was not the right coach for Palermo."
Rossi is the Palermo's 13th coach since Zamparini he took over the club in 2002.
Tuscany side Siena made a second change in a month after replacing Marco Giampaolo with youth team coach Marco Baroni.
Malesani, 55, had been without a job since a five-month stint at Empoli in the 2007/2008 season. He also coached Chievo, Fiorentina, Parma, Verona, Modena, Panathinaikos and Udinese.
Siena are bottom of the table, with just six points.
Five other clubs - Roma, Atalanta, Napoli, Livorno and Bologna - have changed coach since the start of the Serie A season.
