Beirut - Lebanon's Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar on Monday dismissed a judge over allegations of corruption, including accepting bribes. "Dismissing a judge without compensation is a measure that has not been taken for a long time," Najjar said during a press conference, adding that it is "a message and an initiative for reform within the judiciary."
The judge's name was not revealed.
Najjar also said the 18 court cases would be reviewed over the next several months as part of the implementation of reforms within the judiciary.
Following the country's civil war that ended in 1990, corruption has intensified in Lebanon and is rampant across all aspects of Lebanese society.
