Madrid - Vicente del Bosque is poised to extend his contract as national manager of Spain, according to Spanish media reports on Monday. Del Bosque's contract is due to expire straight after the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, but the Spanish federation is keen for him to stay on and has offered him a two-year extension.
Federation president Angel Maria Villar has been quoted by various websites on Monday as saying that "I have spoken with Del Bosque about the prospect of renewing his contract for two more years and he has expressed his agreement.
"We have not signed the contract renewal, but his word is important. We have full confidence in our coach, as can be seen from the results so far."
Villar, who has been running the federation since 1988, has a policy of extending the contract of national manager as soon as they qualify La Seleccion for a major tournament.
Del Bosque, 58, was given the Spain job in July 2008, just after Luis Aragones had led La Seleccion to triumph at Euro 2008.
He has carried on Aragones's good work and established a new record by winning all 10 World Cup qualifying matches. Spain are currently at the top of the FIFA world rankings and one of the favourites to win in South Africa.
Del Bosque led Real Madrid to two Champions Leagues and two Spanish Ligas between 1999 and 2003, then had a brief unsuccessful spell at Turkish giants Besiktas.
