Los Angeles - The Twilight vampires' newest film, New Moon, drank in a box office one-day record at weekend's begin, earning 72.7 million dollars from midnight Thursday to midnight Friday, E! Online reported. That intake soared way beyond the 67.2-million-dollar one-day record captured by the last Batman movie, Dark Knight, in 2008.

New Moon, the second in the teenage vampire series, had already broken night-time records as dawn broke Friday morning. Fans of the romantic story of a teenage girl and the vampire she loves had shelled out 26.3 million dollars during darkness.

The previous night-time record was held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which scooped up 22.2 million dollars earlier this year.

The Twilight movies are based on the best seller books by Stephenie Meyer.
