Rome - Pope Benedict XVI met with the head of the Anglican Church, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, on Saturday in Rome to discuss the Catholic Church's overtures to Anglicans. In their "cordial talks" in the Vatican, Williams and Benedict spoke of their will "to continue and strengthen the ecumenical relations between Catholics and Anglicans," the Vatican announced in a short statement.
The two leaders also discussed "the latest incidents in relations," the statement said.
In a controversial move, the Catholic Church leader has recently developed structures by which traditionalist Anglican ministers (even those married) would be accepted within the Roman communion.
The move followed threats by traditionalists within the Anglican Church to leave over issues such as the consecration of women bishops and gay priests.
