Kabul - Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Thursday suggested convening a tribal council, or loya jirga, to facilitate reconciliation with Taliban militants. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for his second term, Karzai said the the council should serve to create peace in Afghanistan after 30 years of war.

According to the Afghan constitution, the loya jirga is the "highest manifestation of the will of the Afghan people."

Karzai, who was named president after a fraud-ridden election process, also announced to step up the fight against corruption.
