Madrid - Gabi Milito finally returned to action on Wednesday, playing the first 45 minutes of Barcelona's friendly match against Bolivian side Bolivar. The game was played at Barca's new Sant Joan Despi training ground and the hosts won 4-1.
Milito played all of the first half, alongside Rafa Marquez in central defence, and seemed to have no problems with the left knee that has kept him out of action for 18 months.
Milito, 29, tore the ligaments in his left knee playing for Barca against Manchester United in the semi-finals of the Champions League in May 2008.
His recovery has taken longer than expected, and it was even rumoured that he might have to give up the game.
Barca goalkeeper Victor Valdes commented after the Bolivar match that "I am very happy for him (Milito). The best news is that he feels like a player again, even if today's match was just a friendly.
Valdes added that "Gabi always transmits a lot, not only when he plays but when he talks to his companions in the dressing-room."
