Los Angeles - Martin Scorsese will be honoured at the Golden Globe Awards in January with the Cecil B DeMille award in recognition of his "outstanding contribution" to entertainment, organizers said Thursday. Scorsese, 66, was born in New York in 1942. He has directed movies such as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and won an Oscar and Golden Globe for The Departed. Scorsese also won a Golden Globe for Gangs of New York.
Some of his other works include The Last Temptation of Christ, Kundun, Casino, Cape Fear and the music documentaries No Direction Home: Bob Dylan and Shine A Light, a Rolling Stones concert film.
Recent past winners include Steven Spielberg, Warren Beatty, Anthony Hopkins and Michael Douglas. Barbra Streisand is the only woman to have won the award, which is presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association which runs the Golden Globes.
The 67th Golden Globes will take place on January 17th and will be seen in over 160 countries.
