Port-au-Prince - New Prime Minister Max Bellerive said Wednesday that he wants to achieve economic growth and employment through private initiative, after he and 18 cabinet ministers were sworn into office. The new government took office in the presence of President Rene Preval.
The Haitian Senate had sacked premier Michele Pierre-Louis 12 days earlier, arguing that the government lacked a policy to address the country's economic crisis.
Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere.
Bellerive, 59, has served for years in a variety of government functions.
