Athens - An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale shook the Greek Ionian islands on Wednesday, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The underwater quake was recorded at 11:51 am (0951 GMT). It had an epicentre 300 kilometres west of the Greek capital Athens, near the tourist island of Zakynthos., the Geodynamic Institute said.

The area has experienced seismic activity in the past week after a 5.7 Richter quake shook the Ionion islands on November 3.
