Los Angeles - Veteran US rock band Aerosmith are looking for a singer to replace front man Steven Tyler after nearly 40 years together, guitarist Joe Perry has announced. "Aerosmith is positively looking for a new singer to work with. You just can't take 40 years of experience and throw it in the bin," Perry wrote on his Twitter account after Tyler told a British rock magazine that he had cancelled all scheduled tour dates with the band to work on his solo career.

Perry said despite a disastrous summer tour that ended when Tyler fell off the stage and broke his shoulder, he and the other band members were surprised by Tyler's announcement. "Like everyone else, we just read it online," Perry said. "We were kind of knocked back on our heels."

But he reassured fans that despite the loss of the band's iconic singer "Aerosmith is definitely NOT breaking up ... one of the members is doing his own thing and said so in the press."

"(The) band is playing hotter than ever and our songs need to be played live. Don't despair: Aerosmith is not splitting up."
