Berlin - British Premier Gordon Brown said the fall of the Berlin Wall should set an example to tackle "impossible" challenges such as climate change and nuclear proliferation, at Monday's 20th anniversary celebrations. "What seems impossible - an end to nuclear proliferation, an end to extreme poverty, an end to climate catastrophe - can become possible and then unstoppable," Brown told crowds gathered at Berlin's Brandenburg gate.

The British premier thanked the people of Berlin for their courage 20 years ago.

"You dared to dream in the darkness. You knew that while force has the temporary power to dominate, it can never ultimately dictate," Brown said.

The premier said events in Berlin set an example for people fighting injustice in other parts of the world.

He said the people of Berlin had shown that, "in a troubled world with an Africa in poverty, and a Darfur in agony, a Zimbabwe in tears and a Burma in chains, individuals even when in pain need not suffer forever without hope."

"No one can ever again imprison a people who know what it is to be free," the British premier added.
