Washington- US President Barack Obama said Sunday the approval of Iraq's election law was a "signficant breakthrough" for the Iraqi people on their road towards scheduled national elections in January. The passing of the law was an "important milestone", he said speaking from the White House in Washington Sunday.
Parliamentary deadlock in Iraq especially over the distribution of seats in the oil-rich city of Kirkuk had delayed the bill's approval several times in recent weeks, calling into question whether the planned January national elections would take place as scheduled.
