Wellington - A British climber plunged 155 metres to his death when a rope he and a friend were using to descend a cliff face on New Zealand's South Island became entangled, police said Sunday. They identified the dead man as Bryan Allison, 26, who had been living and working in New Zealand since February and had previously successfully climbed the cliff known as Chinaman's Bluff near Glenorchy. His body was recovered Saturday, and his friend James Briscall, 37, of Wanaka, also an experienced climber, was airlifted to safety after spending a night trapped on a ridge on the cliff.
