Athens - Two people were discovered dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in a hotel in the Greek northern port city of Thessaloniki on Friday, nearly three years after a similar incident killed two British children on a holiday resort. The men, a 27-year-old Greek-Italian and a Greek businessman, were discovered dead in separate rooms of the Hotel Nefeli in the northern Greek city.

Autopsies on the men showed that they died from carbon monoxide poisoning, probably from the hotels centralised heating system. The men died within 24 hours of each other, reports said.

"Both men went to sleep and never woke up," said pathologist Mattheos Tsougas.

The deaths come exactly three years after a similar incident killed two British children at a resort on the holiday island of Corfu.

Twelve people, including two British Thomas Cook representatives and hotel employees at the Louis Corkyra Beach Hotel, were due to be tried in the summer in connection with the deaths but the trial has been delayed for another six months.
