Tornio, Finland - Slalom skier Kalle Palander will miss the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver because of ongoing problems caused by a broken shinbone. The 32-year-old Finn broke the bone nearly years two ago but had hoped to compete in the opening World Cup slalom race of the season in his native Levi on November 15.
However, the 1999 slalom world champion has had to give up on his preparations for the opening season races as well as the February Winter Games.
"Maybe I will be in a position in the spring to say what the future holds for Kalle Palander," he said on his homepage.
Palander had originally hoped to return after an absence of over 18 months at the opening World Cup giant slalom event in Soelden, Austria at the end of October but was unable to race to strong pain.
