Valletta, Malta - A German woman died on Wednesday after getting into in difficulties while diving off Malta. Ellen Fischer, 51, who was on a beginner's course, died shortly after surfacing from a dive off the islet of Gozo, local officials said.
A medical team came to the assistance of the woman but were unable to save her. The seas around the Mediterranean island were rough at the time of the incident.
An inquiry is underway.
