Oslo/Belgrade - Cooperation between authorities in Serbia and Norway has resulted in the recent arrest of several suspects in the Scandinavian country, Norwegian police said Tuesday. Norwegian police have cooperated "extremely well" with Serbian police on the matter, Norwegian police prosecutor Havard Kampen said in a statement to the German Press Agency, dpa.
Citing the ongoing investigation, the Norwegian Criminal Investigation Service declined to go into details about the suspects or what crime they were suspected of planning.
In Belgrade, Tuesday's edition of the daily Press reported the arrests of seven suspects, quoting Interior Minister Ivica Dacic.
"The Serbian Interior Ministry ... did send the information to colleagues in Oslo that a gold robbery was planned. They acted quickly. It turned out all the information was correct and suspects were apprehended,"Dacic told the daily Press.
According to the report, the suspects were members of the "Pink Panther" group which has allegedly robbed jewelry stores and gold in cities ranging from Tokyo to Paris, London, and Stockholm.
Dacic said the tip-off "prevented what may have been the robbery of the century in Norway."
