Berlin - Stephen Daldry, director of The Reader, is to head the jury rewarding young talent at next year's Berlinale film festival, organizers announced Tuesday. The Berlin Today prize, which Daldry is to preside over, will go to one of five short films entered in the Talent Campus, whittled down from a record 4,800 applications from 145 countries.
The fringe event at Berlin's international film festival includes discussions, workshops and film screenings, and is seen as a springboard for up-and-coming cinema talent.
Daldry's adaptation of The Reader, starring Kate Winslet, had its German premiere at the 2009 Berlinale.
The festival, which has positioned Berlin on the cinematic landscape alongside Cannes in the south of France, runs from February 11 to 21.
