Helsinki - Nokia Siemens Networks, the loss-making joint venture between Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia and Germany's Siemens, said Tuesday it plans to cut up 6,000 jobs. The group was to cut 7 to 9 per cent of the 64,000-strong global workforce. The effects of the cuts on individual countries were to be disclosed after unions had been consulted.
The 50-50 joint venture was set up in 2007.
The group said it aimed at reducing costs by 500 million euros (736 million US dollars) by the end of 2011, compared to the end of 2009.
The plan included forming three business units as opposed to the current five as of January 2010.
