Los Angeles - Tom Cruise's wife is planning to get romantic - and not with her husband. According to trade paper Variety, she is to executive produce and star in The Romantics, in which she will play a maid of honour in a comedy about eight friends who reunite for a wedding, only for chaos to break out when it emerges that two of them had designs on the groom.

Liv Tyler had been slated to play Holmes' role but dropped out for unspecified reasons. The film also stars Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong.

Morgan Freeman is a Dirty Old Man

Los Angeles - Morgan Freeman is to play a disgruntled, elderly playboy in a new movie that could see him resurrect his starring partnership with Jack Nicholson from 2007's The Bucket List.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie has been circulating with the name Dirty Old Men but could get another name before it goes into production at Warner Bros.

The film will star Freeman as an ageing player who finally finds true love, only for his best friend and wingman of 40 years to do everything in his power to break up the relationship.

Reese Witherspoon follows Rule #1

Los Angeles - Reese Witherspoon is to star in and produce the movie Rule #1, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The movie centres on the story of a friendship between a Puerto Rican girl with attention deficit disorder and a rich New York woman.

No director is yet attached to the film, which was written by Terrel Seltzer, who co-wrote One Fine Day, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney.

Hopkins joins the cast of Thor

Los Angeles - Sir Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast of Thor, the Marvel comic book series being turned into a movie by Kenneth Branagh, according to Variety.

The Oscar-winning British star will play Odin, father of the title character. Filming is due to begin production in January ahead of its 2011 release.

The film is based on the Marvel character of the same name, which first appeared in 1962 and follows the adventures of the thunder god of Norse mythology.
