Los Angeles - The movie producer behind Lord of the Rings and The Matrix is to produce a 150-million-dollar film based on the life of Prophet Mohammed, Variety reported Monday. The epic film will be financed by the Qatari media company Al Noor Holdings. It will comply with Islamic rules that forbid any depiction of the religion's founder, and will show events surrounding his life and Mohammed's effect on those around him. The narrative will run from the years before his birth to his death, the report said.
"He was a profound genius who founded a religion whose name in Islam signifies peace and reconciliation," producer Barrie Osborne said. "This is what our film will aspire to do. The film will educate people about the true meaning of Islam."
Arab-American filmmaker Moustafa Akkad previously tackled the same subject in the 1976 film The Message, starring Anthony Quinn and Irene Papas.
