Rome - A convicted terrorist with Italy's so-called New Red Brigades group was found hanged to death in her jail cell in Rome, Italy media reported Sunday. Rome-born Diana Blefari Melazzi killed herself with a bedsheet late Saturday evening in the "Rebibbia" prison, the reports said.
She was serving a life sentence for the murder of Barco Biagi, an advisor to the Labour Ministry, in March 2002 in the city of Bologna. The last appeal of her sentence was rejected by a Rome appellate court Tuesday.
Her attorneys had made several requests for Melazzi to be transferred to a psychiatric facility due to her poor mental condition.
