Nairobi/Khartoum - Voter registration began in Sudan on Sunday for the first general election to take place in the troubled African nation in 20 years. Logistical support for the election, to take place in six months, is to be supplied to the Sudanese state election commission from several United Nations agencies, the Sudan Tribune reported.

The support will include not only 117,000 kilos of documents to be delivered to the country's 25 states but also office furniture, generators and telephonic equipment to make the election possible in the country of more than 2.5 million square kilometres.

Sudanese voters are scheduled to elect a president and parliament in April. After 20 years of civil war, the election will mark the first participation in an election for many of the country's citizens.
