Polanski's latest bail request rejected by Swiss

Geneva - Film-maker Roman Polanski second attempt to be released on bail failed Friday and he remained in a Swiss prison pending extradition to the United States. Folco Galli, a spokesman for the Swiss Federal Office of Justice, said that the flight risk was deemed too high for Polanski, 76, to be released. A similar reason was given for denying his first request earlier this month. Last week, the US officially requested the extradition. The Franco-Polish director's arrest in Zurich on September 26 was based on a US warrant issued in 1978 stemming from Polanski's admission to having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in California in 1977. Polanski fled the US after spending 42 days in prison for psychiatric tests and has never been sentenced.
