Patrick Swayze's widow: "I feel him here"
Los Angeles - Lisa Niemi, the widow of Patrick Swayze, said Friday she was shocked by his death even though she had known it was coming for a long time.
In her first interview since the actor died of pancreatic cancer in September, Niemi told talk show queen Oprah Winfrey that she felt sadness "on a cellular level."
"I thought during the 22 months of my husband's illness that it gave me all this time to get used to the idea of losing him," she said in the interview broadcast Friday. "It wasn't the same at all. The actual loss is an animal of its own."
The couple were together for 34 years, and Niemi still feels that way. "I feel him here. I feel like he hasn't left. I can feel every contour of his hand in mine," she said.
