Kathmandu - Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in the Nepalese capital Kathmandu Thursday at the start of his three-day official visit. The visit is Rajapaksa's second to the Himalayan nation this year.

In May, the Rajapaksa cut short his Nepal visit after gunmen attacked Sri Lankan cricket players in Pakistan.

Rajapaksa leads a 60-member delegation including three cabinet ministers and is scheduled to hold meetings with his Nepalese counterpart Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and other ministers and politicians.

He is also scheduled to travel to Lumbini in southern Nepal which is considered the birth place of Lord Buddha.

Security has been tightened across Kathmandu city with armed police deployed along the route the Sri Lankan president is expected to take.

During his earlier visit, Nepal and Sri Lanka signed two agreement on establishing a foreign minister-level commission and direct flights between Kathmandu and Colombo.
