New York - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will attend a meeting of religious leaders in Windsor Castle next week and hold talks with British government leaders before then heading to Greece, a spokeswoman said Tuesday. Ban will deliver an address on November 3 on the role faiths can play in tackling climate change. The gathering of religious leaders at Windsor Castle is organized by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, Marie Okabe said.
The UN said world religious leaders plan to present their own views about how to combat climate change at the climate summit in Copenhagen in December. The summit is called to agree on a successor to the Kyoto Protocol expiring in 2012 to curb greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming.
Ban is also to attend on Monday in London a meeting of the International Maritime Organization, which has been involved in fighting piracy off the Somali coasts and Gulf of Aden.
On November 4 and 5, Ban will be in Athens for an official visit to open the 3rd Global Forum on Migration and Development. He will also meet with Greek officials, including Prime Minister and Foreign Minister George Papandreou and President Karolos Papoulias. He is also scheduled to address a special session of Parliament.
