Paris - A French league match between Olympique Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain was postponed Sunday after three PSG players were diagnosed with swine flu. Ludovic Giuly, Mamadou Sakho and Jeremy Clement have contracted the H1N1 virus, while two others players are suspected of carrying the infection, the French league LFP said.
The league said it was decided to call off Sunday evening's match in Marseille to avoid the risk of contagion. PSG players and staff members have been quarantined for the next 72 hours.
The league said the decision was taken after consulting medical experts.
"I want to apologize on behalf of the Professional Football League to the public, clubs, supporters and our broadcasters," league boss Frederic Thiriez said.
"It is clear that protecting the health of players should outweigh all other considerations."
