Stockholm - Thomas Enqvist said Friday he was "honoured" to take over the post as captain of Sweden's Davis Cup team. Speaking on Swedish breakfast television Enqvist said he hoped to rely on Swedish No. One Robin Soderling in his future team and also hoped that hard-serving Joachim Johansson could be part of the group.

The Swedish Tennis Federation named Enqvist on Thursday to succeed Mats Wilander who along with assistant coach Joakim Nystrom have been in charge of the Davis Cup team since 2003.

Enqvist, who won 19 titles in his career and was ranked four in the world, was a member of the Swedish Davis Cup team between 1995 and 2004, and was on the 1997 winning team.

Sweden's first tie with Enqvist as captain is against Argentina in March 2010.

He told reporters Thursday that he aimed to try to get the best Swedish players to commit to play Davis Cup matches, saying this was a good Swedish tradition.

After retiring from the tour, the 35-year-old Enqvist has helped an academy for promising young players. That experience can come in hand as he has gained an eye for Team Catella players like Daniel Berta, Patrick Brydolf and Christian Lindell.

Wilander has said he wanted to spend more time with his family that lives in the US.
