Amman - South Korea's Hanwha group on Wednesday won a 195- million-dollar contract from Jordan's state-owned power utility to build two gas turbine stations with an overall capacity of 285.7 megawatts for the Samra Power Plant. The agreement was signed by Hanwha's Chairman Kim Seung-youn and the Director General of the Samra Electric Power Generating Company Amjad Rawashdeh.
Upon the installation of the two turbine stations within 16 months, the Samra plant's capacity will rise to 900 megawatts, Rawashdeh said in a statement.
The contract is part of the government's plan to raise the electricity generation capacity to meet the country's rapidly increasing demand, he added.
