Washington - The families of eight victims of Air France's crash over Brazil in June have sued European planemaker Airbus for damages, their lawyer said Tuesday. The "wrongful death" lawsuit was filed in an Illinois state civil court on Monday, attorney Floyd Wisner told the German Press Agency dpa. The plaintiffs are families from Germany, France, Argentina and Hungary.
A total of 228 people died when Air France flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean on June 1.
The lawsuit alleges that the Airbus A330 plane was faulty and also sues US parts suppliers including Honeywell International, General Electric, Intel and Motorola.
Two other families have filed a separate lawsuit against Airbus in a Texas court, Wisner said. Airbus is Europe's largest plane manufacturer.
