Tokyo - Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as positive US corporate earnings caused investor confidence in an economic recovery to rise. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 100.33 points, or 0.98 per cent, to close at 10,336.84.
The broader-based Topix index also was up 7.65 points, or 0.84 per cent, to 913.45.
High-tech and commodities stocks saw some of the day's biggest gains.
On currency markets at noon (0300 GMT), the dollar traded at 90.31-33 yen, down from Monday's 5 pm quote of 90.59-61 yen.
The euro traded at 1.4981-85 dollars, up from 1.4935-38 dollars late Monday, and at 135.31-33 yen, virtually unchanged from 135.31-35 yen.
