Dhaka - A Dhaka court on Monday refused bail to the chief executive of a pharmaceutical company charged with manufacturing toxic painkiller syrup that reportedly killed at least 28 children across Bangladesh. Judge ANM Basir Ullah of the Metropolitan Session Court said the charges brought against the managing director of Rid Pharmaceuticals Limited, Mizanur Rahman, were "heinous."
Rahman earlier surrendered to the court and sought bail.
A government probe found the presence of poisonous diethylene glycol in the paracetamol syrup that his company had manufactured.
The government imposed a ban on the production, marketing, preservation, use and sale of the two brands of pain killer syrup, the consumption of which caused deaths of children by renal failure between June and August this year.
