Madrid - Lebanon's President Michel Suleiman on Monday began a state visit to Spain, during which he was to discuss the Middle East peace process and bilateral relations with Spanish leaders. King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia welcomed Suleiman and his wife at El Pardo palace, where the two heads of state listened to national hymns and inspected a military guard.
Suleiman's three-day programme included talks with the king, Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, parliamentary president Jose Bono, a gala dinner and visits to the Senate and Madrid city hall.
Suleiman came to Spain after meeting Zapatero in Lebanon, where the Spanish premier visited Spanish UN troops during his Middle Eastern tour on Friday.
Spain has nearly 1,000 soldiers in Lebanon as part of the United Nations Interim Forces in Southern Lebanon (UNIFIL).
