Madrid - Deportivo Coruna moved up to joint second in the Spanish Liga on Saturday with a 1-0 home win over Sevilla, on a goal from Juan Rodriguez. The tight win leaves Deportivo joint second with Sevilla and Real Madrid, all on 15 points, three points behind leaders Barcelona.
Later on Saturday Real are at home to lowly Valladolid, Barca are away to fifth-placed Valencia.
Sevilla dominated possession in Sevilla but lacked penetration in attack.
The only goal came in the 39th minute. Sevilla left-back Fernando Navarro messed up a clearance and Rodriguez broke the stalemate with a 35-yard screamer that gave goalkeeper Javi Varas no chance at all.
"It was important for us to win today," said Deportivo defender Alberto Lopo, "in order to keep close to the teams at the top of the table."
