Sydney - A gay couple from Bangladesh seeking asylum in Australia have offered to have sex before immigration officials to prove they are genuine homosexuals, news reports said Saturday. The men, who some officials say are brothers, arrived in 1999 and have been fighting to stay on in Australia since then.

They allege they were persecuted in their homeland because of their sexuality and fear for their lives if they have to return to Bangladesh.

The Daily Telegraph reported that the couple are ready to prove their sexuality.

"We are prepared to have an adult witness view us engaged in an act of homosexual intercourse and then attest before you to that fact," the paper said, quoting a submission from the men to the Refugee Review Tribunal.

Their lawyer claims the government is fighting tooth and nail to deny them permanent residency because it fears a "pink wave" of asylum seekers from countries where homosexuals face discrimination.
