Sao Paulo - Jenson Button can clinch the drivers' title and his Brawn GP team the constructors' trophy in the culmination of a remarkable season at the Brazilian Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday. Button leads the way by 15 points into the penultimate season race and doesn't even have to win to beat teammate Rubens Barrichello and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull for his first career world title.
Brawn need just one point to clinch the team crown ahead of Red Bull.
The expected titles come little more than seven months after team boss Ross Brawn bought the team from Honda which had pulled out of the sport. The buyout allowed the team to continue under the new name.
Button won six of the first seven season races and never looked back. He has 85 points to Barrichello's 71 and Vettel's 69 and only needs to finish third to be absolutely sure of the title, regardless of what the others do.
"It's an important race for me and for the team in terms of the championships and we will be working hard to get the best results possible from the weekend," said Button.
"It's going to be a challenge but one that we are all looking forward to."
Button aims to become the successor of fellow-Briton Lewis Hamilton, who won the 2008 title in dramatic fashion in Sao Paulo when the Brazil race was the season-ender. The 2009 season ends November 1 in Abu Dhabi.
While Barrichello is seen as no major title threat with just one season victory, Vettel has not fully given up his chances after getting his third season victory in the last race on October 4 in Japan.
After all, two years ago Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen came from 17 points down in the final two races to steal the title from Hamilton.
"I have nothing to lose and will attack. Jenson is getting a bit weaker, maybe that is our chance," Vettel told German Press Agency dpa.
"It is my aim and my dream to win the Formula One championship. I will fight until the end and not give up. Kimi showed us two years ago what is possible."
Vettel's team boss Christian Horner said that "he (Button) can lose everything and he will not be able to get that out of his mind."
However, Vettel is aware that there is no major advantage for his team over the Brawns as he needs more help than just perfect driving.
"I am only looking at our team. I will do my thing and then we will see," said Vettel.
The action starts on Friday with two practice sessions, qualifying is on Saturday and the race on Sunday.
