London - Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, strongly denied reports Wednesday that her 50th birthday party will be a modest affair because she is short of money. The former wife of Britain's Prince Andrew, who marks her milestone birthday Thursday, had always planned for the celebrations to be small-scale, a spokeswoman said.
She plans to have dinner with family and friends in London, including her ex-husband and their two daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie.
The Sun newspaper reported Wednesday that the Duchess' recent financial problems meant that a party for 300 guests at Royal Lodge in Windsor, near London, had been cancelled.
However, the spokeswoman said the Duchess had had a "turbulent year" from which she would no doubt "bounce back."
