Moscow - US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton was in Moscow on Tuesday for talks with Russian leaders aimed at gauging their support for sanctions against Iran if it fails to live up to its obligations on its nuclear fuel programme. Clinton was due to meet Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and President Dmitry Medvedev. The talks come amid growing international concern over Iran's nuclear programme.
Last month, Tehran, revealed the existence of a second nuclear plant as part of its nuclear programme, which it insists is for peaceful purposes.
Medvedev joined the US and its allies in expressing concern and warned that Russia as a United Nations Security Council veto power could - contrary to its prior position - support sanctions against Iran.
Clinton's Moscow visit is also expected to include discussion of the treaty that will replace the US-Russia Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty that expires in December, as well as efforts at fighting terrorism.
