Hamburg - Germany will be going all out to end their World Cup qualifying campaign with a victory over Finland on Wednesday, team general manager Oliver Bierhoff said Monday. Although coach Joachim Loew has said he would make several changes from the side that defeated Russia 1-0 in Moscow on Saturday, Bierhoff insisted the match in Hamburg was "important."
Germany, whose only points dropped were in a 3-3 draw with Finland in Helsinki just over a year ago, want to end the qualifiers undefeated with nine wins out of 10, Bierhoff said.
"We have had some time to take a breather after the intensity of the build up to the game against Russia but now we want to go into this game with vigour," Bierhoff said.
Hamburg midfielder Piotr Trochowski will definitely start the game on his home ground, while Hoffenheim defender Andreas Beck will come in at full-back, Bierhoff confirmed.
Other changes are thought possible, with Loew keen to give some other squad players an opportunity at some point in the game.
Germany are one of five unbeaten teams so far in the European qualifiers, with a record only just behind European champions Spain, who have won all their nine games.
"It is good that Spain and Germany, the two teams in the European Championships final, have shown that they are the world's best," Bierhoff said.
Germany are seeking opponents for friendly matches next year ahead of the World Cup, but these will depend on the outcome of the World Cup draw in Cape Town on December 4.
The Germans have friendlies against Chile in Cologne on November 14 and Egypt in Gelsenkirchen four days later.
Bierhoff would not confirm a possible match against Argentina in March but said the German federation was seeking "a strong opponent" for the friendly that month.
The Germany squad will move to a training camp in Switzerland or South Tyrol in Italy before flying to their base just outside Pretoria ahead of the June 11-July 11 tournament.
