Copyright-breaking karaoke machines are seized in Hong Kong

Hong Kong - In a new crackdown on piracy, customs officers in Hong Kong Monday seized karaoke machines from four shops that allegedly contained unlicensed copyrighted music and videos. In the first raid of its kind, they arrested seven people working at the shops in the city's Shamshuipo district selling machines that allegedly used music and videos without licences. The case has wide-ranging implications for managers of karaoke bars and the owners of karaoke machines across the city of 7 million, where karaoke singing is a favourite leisure activities. Hong Kong used to be a haven for pirated CDs, DVD and computer software but customs officers have in recent years cracked down heavily on copyright issues.
