Havana - Former Cuban president Fidel Castro on Saturday described the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to US President Barack Obama as a "positive measure" that marked a criticism of the "genocidal policies" of previous US presidents. "Many will say that he still hasn't earned the right to receive such distinction," the 83-year-old Cuban revolutionary leader said in a statement released in Havana.

"We prefer to see in the decision, more than a prize for the president of the United States, a criticism of the genocidal policies that not a few presidents of that country have followed."
